Artist Statement
"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see" --Edgar Degas
I create art to allow people to gain an understanding of what I see and think. I am inspired by the technical element of our world. My goals and aspirations as an artist are to inspire the viewer to understand the world around me.
When I create my art, I decide on a concept I wish to convey. Then depending on the mood and the idea, I choose a medium that I believe I can effectively express. Pen and ink was a medium of choice for me for an extended period of time. I feel that the lines and movement that you can achieve with a pen can make any composition strong. However, I believe that sculpting stone is more of an expressive medium. Stone is a material that is not easily manipulated, although, I found my passion with carving into it; carving soft free flowing forms in a sharp, hard material allows me to give the look of weightlessness.
